The Hong Kong Prize 2023
The hongkong prize is an award that honours individuals who work to advance world civilisation and build harmonious societies. Past winners have included social justice activists and community service workers, such as the founder of a non-profit organisation that provides shelter for homeless adults. The award’s logo — featured on the trophy that winners receive — juxtaposes two precious elements: a pearl and a pierced jade amulet, symbolising the idea that the human spirit can triumph in even the most challenging circumstances.
The Hong Kong Film Awards (HKFA) is an annual film award established in 1993 by a consortium of thirteen professional Hong Kong film associations. It is voted on by the general public and a panel of experts in the industry. The HKFA has been one of the most influential film awards in Asia and is widely regarded as the top film prize in Hong Kong. The HKFA ceremony takes place each year in February.
In 1996, friends and students of the late Dr. John D. Young raised funds to establish the Hong Kong Studies Award, a scholarship for postgraduate students researching the history of Hong Kong and its relations with China, Asia, and beyond. This prestigious prize encourages dialogues and collaborations between scholars and students, and fosters the development of new theories, concepts, and methods of studying Hong Kong.
It is an honor to be selected for the hongkong prize, which allows winners to showcase their work to a global audience and earn monetary prizes. However, it is important to choose the right prize for your work and carefully read its rules and regulations before participating. This will help you avoid any problems and make the most out of your experience.
This year, nine artists from Hong Kong made it onto the Art Prize shortlist – an all-time high since the award’s establishment. Of these, two-thirds were women – also a record for the prize. The shortlisted works explored themes of honour and disgrace, including Noormah Jamal’s painting Did the Seed Grow?, which depicts figures with vacant expressions. Proceeds from the art auctions will benefit SAF’s Make It Better program, which offers expressive arts workshops to children from disadvantaged communities.
The HK Prize 2023 is presented by the Society for Hong Kong Studies as an affiliate of the International Convention of Asia Scholars. The prestigious publication award encourages dialogues and collaborations between scholars, students, and others who study Hong Kong’s history, politics, society, and culture. The coveted trophy, which was designed by artist Joanne Wong, features a pearl and a pierced Jade amulet to promote the prize’s aims of encouraging research into Hong Kong and its connections with China and the wider world. The award is open to scientists worldwide and is based on merit, free of sponsorship and committee influence. The HK Prize is supported by the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited.
