The HK Prize and Other Honours
The hk prize is a merit-based award that honors scientists whose research has global impact and creates real social and economic value. It is open to all researchers worldwide, regardless of nationality and field of study. The award carries both a monetary prize and the opportunity to conduct research in Hong Kong.
The prize also has a number of special categories, including an environmental category. This year, a team of students from the University of Hong Kong won this category with their project, “Hong Kong’s Waste Management System and its Sustainability in a Digital Age”. Their work uses artificial intelligence to help reduce the amount of waste produced by Hong Kong.
This is the first time that a HK-based group has won this award, and it is expected to inspire more young people to take up voluntary work in Hong Kong. In addition to the cash prize, participants also receive a trophy and a certificate. In order to qualify for the hk prize, candidates must pass a rigorous assessment process, and a panel of judges comprised of business, academic, and industry professionals decides who should win the prize.
In addition to the main prizes, the HK Film Critics Association awards a range of other honours. These include the prestigious Hong Kong International Film Festival Golden Rooster Awards and the Golden Bell Award for Best New Director. The HK Film Critics Association was established in 1993, and it is one of the most authoritative film criticism organisations in the world. The organisation’s symbol combines a pearl and pierced jade amulet, which represents the ideal combination of traditional Chinese and Western elements.
Last week, a photo by HKFP photographer Kyle Lam won the top prize at the 2023 Hong Kong Press Photographers Association (HKPPA) Focus at the Frontline contest for his shot of a garbage collection point in Kwai Chung where cleaners had displayed paintings retrieved from bins. The artworks were removed after complaints from residents. Kyle’s picture will now be shown at the Hk Pagai Gallery until February 2024.
The HK Global Development Prize is an annual competition organized by Generocity. It aims to gather innovative ideas on how to establish an Official Development Assistance (ODA) programme in Hong Kong. The winning submission will receive HK$5000 and the opportunity to present their idea to key stakeholders in the development sector. The runner-up will receive HK$2000, while the third place winner will get a certificate.
Five Hongkongers have been nominated for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize. The nominees are Jimmy Lai, Chow Hang-tung, Lee Cheuk-yan, Gwyneth Ho and Joshua Wong. They were chosen for their fervent dedication to protecting freedoms and advocating democracy. In a video message, Mr Lai said that he was honored to be included among this distinguished group. He also expressed gratitude to the jury and to the HK Prize Advisory Committee for their hard work and support. He wished them all the best for their future endeavours.
